When clearing the blockage is not enough
A broken pipe, leaking joint or damaged chamber can cause recurring drainage problems. Tell us what you have noticed and where the pipework is. We assess the defect and discuss the repair options before work is agreed.
Pipework and drainage components
Enquiries can include underground drains and above-ground wastewater pipework. The team will confirm whether the particular work falls within its scope.
- Broken or leaking clay and PVC drainage pipes
- Manholes, inspection chambers and drainage fittings, including plastic chambers
- Waste pipes, U-bends and connections serving sinks, toilets and showers
- Soil vent pipes (SVPs) and stack pipes: access and repair requirements assessed for each job
Finding the defect
A visible leak may identify one problem. Underground damage may need further investigation, sometimes using a CCTV drain survey. Ownership, access and the condition of neighbouring pipework also affect what can be repaired.
Choosing the repair
A local replacement or joint repair may suit some defects. Relining can be an option where the existing pipe remains suitable for a liner; it cannot correct every collapse or alignment problem. Excavation or replacement may be needed. Pitch fibre drains require an assessment of their condition before a method is proposed.
Drainage or fresh-water supply?
This page concerns wastewater drainage. A leaking fresh-water supply pipe is a different type of job. Tell us whether the water is coming from a drain or a supply pipe, if you know. Responsibility and permitted work on a water supply must be established before repairs are arranged.
Excavated replacements and guarantees
Where a drain cannot be repaired satisfactorily from the inside, excavation and pipework renewal may be required. We offer a 10-year guarantee on excavated pipework renewal, with the work covered, conditions and any exclusions set out in the written quotation.
Questions about drain & pipe repairs
Can a broken drain be repaired without digging?
Sometimes. Suitable pipes may be lined, but access, pipe shape, collapse and displacement can rule that out. The method should follow the findings.
Can you repair manholes and soil vent pipes?
The team takes enquiries about drainage chambers, fittings, waste pipes and SVPs. Describe the defect and access so the scope can be confirmed before a visit or quotation.
Who is responsible for a shared drain?
Responsibility needs to be established before work is agreed. Explain whether the pipe serves other properties and share any information already provided by the water company.
