Finding out what is happening underground
Hidden drain problems often need investigation rather than guesswork. We use specialist Scanprobe CCTV inspection equipment to view accessible pipework, investigate recurring blockages and help identify visible damage or obstructions.
EXAMPLES OF OUR EXPERIENCE
Practical experience

What can a CCTV drain survey show?
A camera is passed through accessible drains to look for issues that are hidden underground. It can help identify the position and visible condition of pipework and inform decisions about clearance or repairs. Depending on access and visibility, a survey may reveal:
- Obstructions or debris within a drain
- Cracks, damaged joints or displaced sections
- Root intrusion and evidence of deformation
- Places where a recurring blockage may be developing
When is a survey worth considering?
A one-off blockage may be resolved without a camera inspection. A survey becomes more relevant where the same problem returns, damage is suspected or the drainage condition needs to be checked before a proposed repair. It can also be requested for certain property or maintenance purposes; tell us what you need the findings for.
Our Scanprobe equipment
The Scanprobe camera system allows an operative to inspect accessible pipework from inside the drain. Footage can help locate blockages, identify visible defects and inform the next stage of clearance or repair. Survey access and visibility vary from job to job.
What happens during an inspection?
The available entry points and the condition of the drains determine how much of the system can be surveyed. If a pipe is heavily blocked, cleaning may be necessary before a clear view is possible. The camera findings can then help identify suitable next steps, but they do not replace every other type of investigation.
What happens after the survey?
If a defect is found, possible next steps may include clearing an obstruction, monitoring the condition or considering a targeted repair or replacement. If you need recorded footage, a written report or a particular survey format, tell us when enquiring so the scope can be confirmed in advance.
Suspected rat entry through drains
If rats are suspected of entering through drainage, a camera inspection may help identify defects or possible routes. Tell us about any findings from a pest-control professional. Investigating or repairing a drainage defect is different from providing pest-control treatment; the team will confirm the work it can undertake.
Questions about cctv drain surveys
Does every blocked drain need a CCTV survey?
No. Some blockages can be assessed and cleared without one. A camera inspection may help when the cause is unclear, a problem keeps returning or structural damage is suspected.
Can a CCTV drain survey find a cracked pipe?
Visible cracking and other defects may be identified where the camera can reach and the view is clear. No survey can guarantee that every possible defect will be visible.
Will I receive a recording or written report?
That depends on the survey arranged. If you need footage, a written report or documentation for a property transaction or insurer, ask us to confirm what can be supplied before booking.
What if the drain is blocked and the camera cannot pass?
The obstruction may need to be cleared before further inspection. We can discuss the circumstances and the appropriate order of work.
